How to Create Good Trouble and Drive Equity
Leadership Lessons from John Lewis
"Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."
Rep. John Lewis, June 2018
I’ve recently had discussions with executive clients and webcast guests around the role that leaders should play in helping their organizations and communities drive racial equity. These were challenging but enlightening conversations that covered everything from day-to-day solutions to long-term strategies. It was interesting that several mentioned the inspiration they received from learning more about the life of John Lewis and especially from some of his illuminating quotes.
As organizational psychologists are wont to do, these discussions and Rep. Lewis’s insights got me thinking about what competencies are critical for leaders to have in their skill sets to lead and drive equity.
